“Tremendous” underrated Pedro Neto changed Forest game

Share

While he’s never been the sort of player to generate a huge amount of hype, Pedro Neto is quietly effective, and Saturday was a perfect example of that.

All the credit is going to Enzo Maresca’s half time changes and the arrival of Moises Caicedo onto the pitch. But things are probably more simple than that. Goals change games, and it was Neto’s burst down the left which led to the first, and his free kick which was the second.

From there, there was no way back for Forest, who crumbled. Neto didn’t get the praise he deserved for forcing the issue with his directness.

The London is Blue podcast did appreciate his efforts, however:

“I thought his work off the ball was tremendous yesterday,” presenter Nick Verlaney said.

“It was a real kind of old school Pedro Neto shift, like when he was kind of carrying us in the second half of the season last year. We need to see more of that. Like obviously I think a little bit of rotation will help save the legs for everybody so that you don’t have to just kind of wear yourself out by December.

“But I’m really excited to see if he can, if this like increased competition will do wonders for him or not. Because if it pushes him forward to where he’s that much of a playmaker, it’s going to be a good thing for us this year.”

In other news…

Another Portuguese winger we’ve had on our books in recent years is Diego Moreira – and there’s a sense we may have cashed in on him too soon, given he’s now being linked with a move back to Stamford Bridge.

Moreira isn’t the only Strasbourg player we’re being linked with. Guela Doue is having a great season at right back, and yesterday the Blues were linked with €30m interest in the Ivory Coast international.
