Man City midfielder Nico O’Reilly has made the final 25-player shortlist for the 2025 Golden Boy award.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport hands out the prize every year to recognise the best player in Europe under the age of 21.
20 are nominated by popular vote, while a further 5 make the list based on the choices made by the editorial staff of the publication.
O’Reilly is one of nine Premier League players to be included on the list, with the winner set to be announced at the end of this year.
Who are the 25 nominees?
Arsenal duo Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, Chelsea pair Jorrel Hato and Estevao, Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, Liverpool’s Giovanni Leoni and Manchester United’s Leny Yoro make up the rest of the Premier League contingent.
Real Madrid (Dean Huijsen, Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono), and Paris Saint-Germain (Desire Doue, Warren Zaire-Emery and Senny Mayulu) have three nominations apiece.
The remaining players include Juventus’s Kenan Yildiz, Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsi, Sporting Lisbon’s Geovany Quenda, Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham, Inter Milan’s Pio Esposito, Porto’s Rodrigo Mora & Victor Froholdt, Club Brugge’s Aleksandar Stankovic, Bayer Leverkusen’s Eliesse Ben Seghir and Strasbourg’s Mamadou Sarr.
Guardiola has praised the Man City midfielder
Following the 2-0 win over Napoli in a Champions League fixture last month, manager Pep Guardiola made a point to single out O’Reilly for his performance:
“He’s a top, top player. He can play in three, four positions. His presence in set-pieces, one-v-one, with the ball he’s really good, arrives good in the final positions. He’s a player hopefully [will stay at the club] for many years!”
O’Reilly put pen to paper on a new five-year contract not long after the Napoli game so, as Guardiola was hoping, he is set to remain at the Etihad for the long term.
