Josh Acheampong scored his first goal on Saturday, bringing him onto the radar of many football fans for the first time.
But Chelsea fans have known how good he is for a long time, and they’re not the only ones. According to Fabrizio Romano’s rundown of the weekend, German giants Dortmund tried their hardest to sign the defender in the summer, on any terms possible.
Chelsea fend off German interest in key player

“I can tell you that Borussia Dortmund, while they had conversations with Chelsea for [Carney] Chukwuemeka, for [Aaron] Anselmino, they asked about Acheampong,” Romano revealed on his Youtube channel today.
“They were prepared to accept any formula: a loan, a loan with option to buy, a permanent transfer, anything. Borussia Dortmund wanted Acheampong. From Chelsea, it was a no.”
We’re not surprised. Not only do they rate Acheampong as a potential world class player long term, they also knew they were going to need him this season once Levi Colwill’s injury was confirmed.
Finally he’s getting some chances to play – even with Tosin back on the bench, the teenager was Enzo Maresca’s chosen man at the back against the Tricky Trees. We hope this trend continues, there’s still so much to come from Josh.
Dortmund know a player when they see one – sadly it’s not going so well for Aaron Anselmino.

In other news…
An unsung hero from Chelsea’s win over Nottingham Forest was Marc Guiu, who changed the game tactically as well as contributing to the first two goals. He created the space for Acheampong to head home with a run to the near post. This comes on the back of a meeting with Enzo Maresca that he had.
