Romano Confirms Rival Is In “Active Talks” Amid Claims That Man City Were Plotting Hijack For Donnarumma Alternative

Manchester United are now in “active talks” to sign Manchester City target Senne Lammens, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Belgian was being considered by the Cityzens as a potential alternative to Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Sky Sports Switzerland reporter Sacha Tavolieri suggested that Pep Guardiola’s side were struggling to find an agreement with PSG on a transfer fee so they were “exploring” a deal for Lammens instead.

At the time of writing, neither club have tabled a bid for the Royal Antwerp goalkeeper, but things could change in that regard in the coming hours.

What do Man City fans need to know about Lammens?

The shot-stopper is 23 years of age, making him slightly older than James Trafford. He has made 64 appearances for Antwerp over the past two seasons, having joined on a free transfer from Club Brugge in the summer of 2023.

Lammens has only really been a regular starter since early April 2024, when an injury sustained by first-choice Jean Butez led to his elevation to the first team.

He has caught the eye over the last 15 months, with Man United having sent scouts to watch him on a regular basis. It seems City have been keeping tabs on the keeper too.

What is the situation with Donnarumma?

Despite having less than a year left on his contract, it has been reported that PSG want between £35m and £45m for the Italian international.

Combined with Donnarumma’s sizeable wage demands, it seems as if City have decided to look at cheaper options.

It should be pointed out that any move for Lammens or Donnarumma still depends on Ederson leaving the Etihad Stadium. The 32-year-old has been the subject of an offer from Galatasaray but the Turkish champions’ €10m (£8.6m) proposal is substantially below the valuation that has been set.
