Man City Target Serbian ‘Midfield Jewel’ Who Is Poised To Make First Team Debut For Bundesliga Club

Share

Man City are keeping close tabs on Stuttgart youngster Mirza Catovic, according to reports in the German media.

Sky Sport Deutschland claim that the “midfield jewel” is a target for club academy manager Thomas Krucken.

Catovic was signed by Krucken when he was at Stuttgart and he was keen to take the Serbian with him when he took up his post at City a couple of years ago.

At the time, the teenager opted to sign a contract extension with his current team, and he has gone on to make his senior debut for Stuttgart’s second string in Germany’s third tier.

Catovic could soon make his debut for Stuttgart’s first team

The 18-year-old has been named on the bench for two Europa League fixtures this season but head coach Sebastian Hoeness has yet to hand him his first appearance.

Catovic is still splitting his time between the second and first team setup, having made nine appearances for Stuttgart II so far this campaign, but he is likely to get minutes in the Bundesliga and (potentially) in Europe over the coming weeks and months.

What chance do Man City have of signing the midfielder?

Sky Sport Deutschland report that Catovic is currently “satisfied” with his situation in Germany, but that could change if his progress to becoming a first-team regular stalls.

With Stuttgart having tied him down until the summer of 2028, the Bundesliga outfit know they are in control of his future.

City are unlikely to table a bid, unless it becomes known that Catovic wants a move, but he is clearly a player who is highly rated by Krucken and others in City’s academy.

As he is already 18, there will be no issues with Brexit rules if he does become available for transfer. British teams can’t sign foreign players below that age.
