Flamengo want the future of Manchester City target Wesley to be resolved before the Club World Cup, according to reports in Brazil.
The tournament starts on June 14th but FIFA have allowed teams involved to sign players between June 2nd and June 10th if they so wish, and the latter date is when Flamengo are hoping to have completed the sale of the fullback.
Wesley is believed to have already given his approval to joining the Cityzens but Pep Guardiola’s side are yet to agree a transfer fee with his club.
O Globo claim that an offer between €40m (£34m) and €50m (£42m) will be needed for a deal to go ahead.
8 other clubs have considered signing Wesley
The Brazilian right-back is in high demand. Reports last week suggested that both Manchester United and Arsenal had also enquired about the player.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Juventus have been credited with an interest in Wesley over the past few months as well.
Why are City so keen to sign the defender?
The Manchester club don’t really have many options on the right-hand side of defence. Rico Lewis is still relatively inexperienced at 20 years of age and Guardiola has been forced into using a midfielder, Matheus Nunes, in the position instead.
Kyle Walker is expected to return from his loan spell at AC Milan this summer, with the Rossoneri unlikely to take up their option to buy him on a permanent basis. However, the 34-year-old is still set to be sold to another team.
With that being the case, City have been seeking out replacements and it appears as if they have identified Wesley as their no.1 target. Based on O Globo‘s reporting, it seems that they only have a few weeks to find an agreement with Flamengo or the deal could be off.
