Man City Have Identified £51M Livramento Alternative But They Face ‘Scrap’ With Arsenal

Porto right-back Martim Fernandes has emerged as a potential transfer target for Manchester City.

The 19-year-old is said to be on the club’s radar as they seek a potential replacement for Kyle Walker.

TEAMtalk claim that Fernandes is being monitored by the Cityzens but they are not the only team pursuing the young defender’s signature.

There could be a potential “scrap” with the likes of Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen and Napoli who are also interested in the teenager.

It is believed that the latter has made a recent enquiry for Fernandes, while the former two have been sending scouts to watch his progress over the past twelve months.

How much would it cost to sign Fernandes?

Porto would be reluctant to offload one of their brightest young players but the fullback does have a release clause in his contract reportedly worth €60m (£51m).

That would be a sizeable amount to spend on someone like Fernandes, who has only made 42 senior appearances and hasn’t been capped by Portugal at senior level yet.

You would think that City would prefer to secure the services of a right-back with much greater experience, considering he would be succeeding Walker.

What is the latest on City’s pursuit of Livramento?

It has been known for several weeks that Pep Guardiola’s side are hoping to buy Tino Livramento but his club, Newcastle, are not willing to sell the England international.

Speaking about his future in the last few days, the 22-year-old said he is not aware of City’s interest, and it appears that he won’t press for a move away from St James’ Park.

With that being the case, it looks like Director of Football Hugo Viana is exploring other options, and Fernandes’s name is clearly on the list.
