Man City Are ‘Now Showing Interest’ In Chelsea And Man United Target As Battle For “Extrarordinary” Player Heats Up

Manchester City are keen on bringing Marc-Andre ter Stegen to the Etihad, according to reports.

The German international’s future at Barcelona has been cast into doubt following the signing of Espanyol’s Joan Garcia and there is a good chance that he will leave Spain.

TEAMtalk claim that Pep Guardiola’s side are “now showing interest” in ter Stegen as they step up their attempts to sign a new number one.

Ederson is unlikely to remain with the Cityzens beyond the summer. The Brazilian has just a year left on his contract, and he has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, so the search for a replacement has begun in earnest.

Chelsea are in the market for a new first-choice keeper and it is believed that they did make enquiries about the Barca shot-stopper before making their move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.

With the deal for the France international having hit difficulties, it remains to be seen whether the Blues will revive their interest in ter Stegen.

Manchester United are also reportedly looking to replace Andre Onana, and they could be tempted to approach Barcelona, with the La Liga champions said to be willing to sell their goalkeeper.

Speaking about ter Stegen a couple of years ago, Barca boss Xavi was fulsome in his praise of the German, who was in outstanding form at the time:

“I know how he thinks, his personality, he is very methodical, he’s a perfectionist. He has worked a lot and he was aware that he had to improve too.”

“Right now, he is at an extraordinary level. I would say that, right now, he is the best goalkeeper in the world. Even more so for us what we in terms of play. With the ball to feet in goal, he is perfect for us. Having Marc in goal makes me calm.”
