Chelsea gave Liam Delap the penalty to score their third today, which got him off the mark.
There was a whiff of pity about it, not that he’s been struggling much. But they needn’t have bothered. Not long after, the summer signing from Ipswich scored one from open play.
Chelsea rip through tired Milan to kill game off

Malo Gusto punched the ball between the lines, Andrey Santos read it perfectly, drifting into space and laying it off first time to Delap, who was making a run into the box. He finished first time, sliding it past Mike Maignan into the corner.
In three touches, the ball went between three players, from midfield to the Milan net. Another lovely goal from a brilliant Chelsea preseason.
Santos is likely to be used a little deeper in general, but his assist here shows what he can do in the box.

Delap gets important confidence boost from preseason double
Playing opposition who go down to ten men is never ideal in a friendly – you want that physical preparation that comes from simulating a proper game, not an easy run around.
However there is something to be said for this situation – someone like Delap will benefit so, so much in terms of confidence from his two goals today. He’s still not going to be starting this week – Joao Pedro has surely cemented his starting role with another goal and impressive performance today.
But young Delap has reminded everyone of what damage he can do off the bench. This is a big season for him, with a World Cup at the end of it.
Chelsea are finally looking to be in a great spot, with three really good strikers on the books right now.
