TNT Sports pundit Joe Cole claims that Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne would be a “perfect” fit for his former club Chelsea.
There are suggestions that the Belgian is prepared to join another Premier League team when he leaves the Etihad this summer and Cole says he could provide Enzo Maresca’s side with some much-needed experience:
“Do you know who he’s perfect for? Do you know what? Like Chelsea. I know he’s been there before and he, you know, I’m just thinking.”
“You’re saying to, you’re not for us for the next two years and what we want to do. Well, you’re on a free, you can go anywhere you want.”
“And I’m saying, and I’m saying, and this ain’t me trying to, you know, if I’m Chelsea and I’m sitting around with him, I’m going, we need experienced players, like Kevin De Bruyne, he’s been injured a bit, but we, what he gives the changing room as a winner, as a leader, we might only need him for 30 games a season.”
What are the chances of De Bruyne staying in England?
Although it wasn’t his decision to end his time in Manchester (with the club opting against offering a new deal), the midfielder is still set to leave the current Premier League champions on cordial terms.
For that reason, it would be a surprise if De Bruyne decided to join a rival, having spent the best part of a decade with the Cityzens. Of course, nothing can be ruled out, but you would put long odds on him returning to Chelsea.
Where could the City legend go?
Joining San Diego FC has been mooted but the MLS side have recently ruled out a transfer taking place due to financial reasons.
De Bruyne has also spoken out in the past about going to Saudi Arabia so a switch to the Middle East is likely to be under consideration. City supporters will certainly be hoping that the 33-year-old decides to move abroad.
