Man City goalkeeper James Trafford could be in line to leave the club in January, six months after joining.
Pep Guardiola’s side almost managed to get a huge result against rivals Arsenal at the weekend as they held a lead until the 93rd minute when Gabriel Martinelli equalised for the Gunners.
Since then, City progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a win against Huddersfield Town in midweek, and they now look ahead to a game against Burnley this weekend. One player who was huge against Arsenal was goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, and the Italy international will likely play a big role against Burnley too.
However, Donnarumma’s arrival was a huge blow to James Trafford, who came back to Man City from Burnley just a month before City signed Donnarumma. Trafford is now the backup at the Etihad, and his future has now been plunged into doubt amid losing the starting job to Donnarumma.
Trafford could see January loan to the Championship
According to a report by TeamTalk via Football Transfers, despite Man City signing Trafford for £27m in the summer, the young English keeper could see a loan move to the Championship just six months after returning to the Etihad.
The report says that a loan exit in January is a realistic possibility, with two clubs in the Championship credited with interest in the 22-year-old shot stopper.
Both Leicester and Southampton are named as interested clubs, with the two relegated sides targeting a return to the Premier League immediately. They view Trafford as a key part of their plans if they can sign him after what he did last year at Burnley, keeping an incredible 18 clean sheets over the course of the Championship promotion season under Scott Parker.
Based on how good Trafford is, it also wouldn’t be a surprise to see Premier League clubs interested in a loan move for him too, but none have yet been linked in reports.
