Man City are keeping close tabs on Sporting Lisbon defender Ivan Fresneda, according to journalist Dean Jones.
It was reported earlier this week that the Spanish youth international is a target to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s options at right-back. However, speaking to TEAMtalk, Jones said a move to sign the player in January is unlikely:
“It is true that Man City continue to track Ivan Fresneda. They are looking for another full-back option and it is just a case of whether they see a good enough opportunity in January… Fresneda has been of interest for a while, and I understand they have continued to keep an eye on him.”
“I think getting him in January would be difficult, to be honest, but they see him as a good fit for the squad and have detailed reports drawn up on him ahead of any potential active pursuit in 2026.”

TEAMtalk claim that Chelsea and West Ham have the 21-year-old on their “radar” too. The Blues, in particular, have a longstanding interest in the fullback.
They reportedly battled Sporting for Fresneda’s signature in the summer of 2023 when he was still at Real Valladolid, but they pulled out of the race, with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules cited as the main reason for the decision.
Man City are also looking at other targets
The Cityzens remain keen on purchasing Newcastle’s Tino Livramento, but there are sizeable obstacles in the way of that deal.
At the moment, the Magpies are not willing sellers. The sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool means that they are under no pressure to offload Livramento for financial reasons either, so something would need to change for the 22-year-old to become available in the near future.
