Ex-Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has praised Manchester City striker Erling Haaland following his performance during the 3-1 win over Chelsea.
The Norwegian international scored a delightful goal to put the Premier League champions into the lead last Saturday and, speaking to sports betting site BetVictor, Redknapp said:
“I thought Erling Haaland was excellent against Chelsea, he was a real handful. I don’t know what Robert Sanchez is thinking for his goal, but you see the pace, strength, and quality of Haaland there.”
Redknapp believes that Pep Guardiola‘s side are now getting into gear following their victory at the weekend:
“City are beginning to click, just in time for their must-win Champions League tie, and Haaland is looking sharp.”
Redknapp’s Premier League Team of the Week
Haaland was named in the ex-Spurs and West Ham’s boss best XI for matchweek 23. Redknapp chose Leicester City’s Jakub Stolarczyk in goal with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori as the two fullbacks.
Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Manchester United’s Harry Maguire were selected in the centre of defence with a midfield comprising of Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams.
Redknapp opted to pick four forwards this week, including Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and City’s Haaland.
City have some massive games coming up
As Redknapp points out, Guardiola’s men have a huge game in the Champions League against Club Brugge this week. The Cityzens need the three points to stand any chance of making the playoff round.
After that, they travel to the Emirates to face title challengers Arsenal before games against Leyton Orient (in the FA Cup), Newcastle, Liverpool (both at home) and Tottenham (away).
City’s whole season could well be defined by results between now and the end of next month.
