‘Get It Done’ ‘Too Expensive. Better Get Palmer Back’ Fans React To Reports That City Target May Get £104M Buyout Clause

Bayer Leverkusen are trying to tie down Manchester City target Florian Wirtz to a new contract that will include a €125m (£104m) release fee, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claim that, if the German international doesn’t agree to sign the extension, the Bundesliga champions may increase their asking price to €150m (£124m).

Fans on X have been debating whether the club should break their transfer record to sign Wirtz or consider other targets:

Wirtz has been in outstanding form

The 21-year-old has scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists in 35 appearances this campaign, which is an excellent return for someone who is still in the early stages of his career.

Some fans have argued that the club should re-sign Cole Palmer from Chelsea instead but even the England international can’t match Wirtz’s goal and assist total.

City need to find a replacement for De Bruyne

The Premier League champions have to find a way of replacing Kevin De Bruyne‘s goal contributions. The Belgian is expected to leave the Etihad when his contract expires in June.

It is imperative that the Cityzens add more creativity when the legendary midfielder departs the club and Wirtz is definitely among the top contenders.

The German does, though, have plenty of other suitors, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Liverpool having also been credited with an interest in the player over the past 12 months.
