Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Roy Keane expect a stalemate when Manchester City face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
The two former Red Devils have gone with 2-2 and 1-1 scorelines respectively, which is a result that won’t really help Pep Guardiola’s side’s push for Champions League qualification.
It should be pointed out that United’s home record has been pretty poor this season, having lost 7 of their 15 games on their own turf.
For that reason, the Cityzens should be optimistic about getting a result, even though derbies can be very unpredictable.
City will be keen to get revenge after what happened in December
Guardiola’s men were within minutes of winning the first fixture between these two sides earlier this season.
However, a late brace from Amad Diallo meant that the home side suffered a very disappointing setback at a pivotal moment in their campaign.
A victory away from home against their fiercest rivals would therefore be all the sweeter.
Manchester United vs Manchester City team news
Guardiola will be without Erling Haaland (ankle), John Stones (thigh), Nathan Ake (foot), Manuel Akanji (torn adductor) and Rodri (ACL) for this match.
It was confirmed prior to the victory over Leicester on Wednesday that Haaland could be sidelined for up to seven weeks. You can read a more detailed update on City’s injuries here.
United, meanwhile, are sweating over the fitness of Matthijs de Ligt. Head coach Ruben Amorim says the Dutchman picked up an issue during the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest earlier this week.
Kobbie Mainoo is also touch-and-go. The midfielder has returned to training, but he has not played for the best part of two months. The likes of Luke Shaw (fitness), Ayden Heaven (ankle), Jonny Evans (back), Amad (ankle) and Lisandro Martinez (ACL) have all been ruled out of contention.
