Manchester City are looking to add Tottenham’s Dexter Oliver and Liverpool’s Kaylum Moss to their academy, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on his X account, the journalist revealed that the Cityzens are “advancing in talks” to sign Oliver while they are “closing in” on sealing the signature of Moss.
Recruiting youngsters from rivals is usually more straightforward than signing senior stars simply because the players in question are not old enough to put pen to paper on professional contracts.
However, compensation still needs to be paid, while there is also a lengthy five-step process for ratifying the registration with the Football Association.
What do fans need to know about Oliver and Moss?
Oliver is a midfielder who has been playing for Spurs’s youth team. He is 16 years of age and is generally deployed as a No.8 or No.10. He would likely go straight into City’s Under-18 setup for next season.
Moss is younger. He has been given runouts by Liverpool at Under 15 level, and it may be a while before he makes his first-team debut.
Man City have been very busy in the transfer market
The Cityzens have already added four names to the senior squad this summer. Rayan Ait-Nouri was snapped up from Wolves to strengthen the club’s options at left-back.
Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders were recruited from Lyon and AC Milan, respectively, to add more creativity in midfield following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne.
Following Scott Carson’s decision to leave the Etihad, City also opted to bring in another goalkeeper, with Marcus Bettinelli having arrived from Chelsea. Director of Football Hugo Viana is aiming to sign more names between now and the end of August when the transfer window closes.
In other news, it has been revealed why Man City failed to secure the services of Florian Wirtz
