Diego Forlan Claims That Man City Have A Player Who Is Better Than Cole Palmer, Lautaro Martinez And Viktor Gyokeres

Former Manchester United and Uruguay striker Diego Forlan has paid a huge compliment to Man City star Erling Haaland.

Forlan was asked by TikTok channel futcrunch to stay silent until he heard a player better than him.

The interviewer listed names, including Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, former international teammate Edinson Cavani, Real Madrid’s Endrick, soon-to-be Arsenal player Gyokeres, Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic, RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, before Forlan finally spoke up when Haaland was mentioned.

Considering the Norwegian’s exploits for the Citzyens over the past three years, Forlan’s opinion is not entirely surprising.

Haaland’s record since moving to the Etihad

The forward (who has recently turned 25) has scored a phenomenal 124 goals in 146 appearances for the Cityzens, as well as contributing 21 assists.

It means Haaland has averaged a goal contribution every 1.007 games since signing from Borussia Dortmund for £51m in the summer of 2022.

Is there a release clause in the Man City star’s contract?

Haaland signed a new deal back in January, keeping him in Manchester until the summer of 2034. It is believed to be worth an eyewatering £525,000 a week.

Despite committing his long-term future to City, there have been suggestions that the deal included a release clause, which would allow the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona to sign him in the future. Asked about the existence of such a clause back in April, the striker’s agent Rafaela Pimenta said:

“Release clause? I never comment on contracts. Erling has all the freedom because I think when you do what you want, you know what you’re doing, you have a proper deal… You have freedom.”

It isn’t a definitive ‘yes’ or ‘no’ but the fact that Pimenta mentions “freedom” suggests that Haaland is not locked in for the next decade.

In other news, Man City are set to seal their 6th signing of the summer transfer window
