The international break is over, rejoice, and Liverpool return with a trip to newly-promoted Burnley in search of remaining the only side with a 100 percent record.
Burnley vs. Liverpool
Premier League (4) | Turf Moor
September 14, 2025 | 2pm (BST)
Liverpool make the trip to Turf Moor on Sunday as the Premier League returns after the first international break of the season.
Arne Slot‘s men won their first three matches, the only side to do so, and now face a newly-promoted club in a bid to extend their strong start.
Here is everything you need to know ahead of the match.
1. Will Alexander Isak make his debut?
Liverpool’s new No. 9 is eligible to make his debut on Sunday, but there is no guarantee that he will get any minutes after Arne Slot declared that “we have to build him up gradually.”
“Don’t expect him to be, every single game, on the pitch for 90 minutes,” Slot stressed. “That’s definitely not going to happen in the upcoming weeks.”
Any minutes will come off the bench and likely for only the final exchanges, having only played 18 minutes of competitive action since the end of May.
We’re all desperate to see him but we will have to be patient!
2. Curtis Jones the latest name on injury list
Curtis Jones has been ruled out of Sunday’s game due to an injury he sustained off the bench against Arsenal before the international break.
Slot delivered the surprise news on Friday, throwing a spanner into any predicted lineup with many having anticipated the midfielder to start after being left out of England’s squad.
With Alexis Mac Allister playing 90 minutes in midweek and still not at 100 percent, Jones was the obvious choice to partner Ryan Gravenberch.
3. Liverpool to debut new Adidas third kit
The third kit was released on Tuesday and it is a thing of beauty, and that includes the black goalkeeper strip that Alisson will don!
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long until we can see it in action, with its first outing to come against Burnley.
It does, however, pose the question of a clash of shorts as Burnley also wear white shorts with their home kit – a mix-and-match would be far from ideal!

4. Championship centurions back in topflight
Burnley returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking after amassing 100 points, finishing only second to Leeds on goal difference last season.
Manager Scott Parker has overseen one win, against fellow promoted side Sunderland, and two defeats so far. They have scored four goals in their first three games and conceded six.
Burnley come into the fixture with a few injury concerns, but Kyle Walker is expected to start, and Liverpool can exploit his weaknesses to fire off shots at Martin Dubravka’s goal.
Possible Burnley XI: Dubravka; Walker, Esteve, Ekdal, Hartman; Cullen, Ogochukwu, Mejbri; Larsen, Foster, Anthony
5. Liverpool predicted XI
Aside from the injury to Jones, Liverpool head into this fixture in good health and it gives Slot options.
Jeremie Frimpong is back in training after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury, while Conor Bradley got valuable minutes for Northern Ireland after only playing 10 minutes for Liverpool.
There could be a desire not to risk Mac Allister after his recent fitness woes, and that could see Dominik Szoboszlai move back into midfield and Bradley return at right-back.
The team otherwise picks itself with Isak not yet ready to start.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike
6. Slot: ‘Isak needs a proper pre-season’
There was obvious interest in Isak’s fitness after a summer of isolation at Newcastle, and Slot made it clear to reporters that he needs time to get up to speed:
“He missed a proper pre-season, I think he missed three or four months of team sessions, and so now we have to build him up gradually.
“With us playing so many games, hardly any training time, that’s going to be a challenge.
“But we’ve signed him not only for the upcoming weeks, we’ve signed him for six years.
“This is what we have to keep in mind and what the fans have to keep in mind if they see me taking him off at a certain moment, or if I only bring him in for a small amount of minutes.
“That’s all for the long-term fitness of the player.”
7. A busy international break
Liverpool had eight players play maximum minutes during the international break: Virgil van Dijk, Florian Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate, Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Notably for Liverpool’s medical department, six of them have also started every league game so far – only Robertson and Mamardashvili have not.
Thankfully everyone returned injury-free, but it leaves plenty to consider with this the first of seven games in 21 days.
8. Time to give us your prediction!
Liverpool are the only side in the Premier League with a 100 percent record after three games, scoring eight and conceding four.
The Reds have won the last five meetings against Burnley, and the last six at Turf Moor – hopefully that eases any lingering trepidation for the trip!
9. Referee: Michael Oliver
Michael Oliver is the referee for this fixture, his first time overseeing Liverpool since the explosive Merseyside derby last season, which saw him show a red card to Slot and Jones.
He will be assisted by Stuart Burt and James Mainwaring, with Chris Kavanagh acting as the fourth official.
Paul Tierney is overseeing VAR and has Eddie Smart as his assistant, rounding off quite the group of referees with a history with Liverpool!
10. How to watch Burnley vs. Liverpool
