Arsenal set to sign Arrizabalaga after Zubimendi, goalkeeper expected at London Colney this week to tie up move

Arsenal are poised to make their second summer signing this week, according to The Athletic.

The Gunners have yet to make an official signing during the summer transfer window, but it is well known that Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi will be joining the club next month.

The Athletic now reveal that Kepa Arrizabalaga will be the Gunners’ next significant arrival. The Spain international is ‘expected’ at London Colney this week to finalise his £5m move from Chelsea.

Arrizabalaga should be a good deputy behind David Raya

The 30-year-old spent the previous season on loan with Bournemouth. He signed for the Cherries after significantly reducing his wages for a contract extension with the Blues.

Arrizabalaga had a solid campaign for the South Coast outfit. The Athletic graduate made almost 100 saves in the Premier League. He had a save success rate of 71 percent.

The Spaniard also kept eight clean sheets for Andoni Iraola’s side. He has been vulnerable to long-range shots in the past, but conceded just two from such situations last term.

Arrizabalaga has undoubtedly become a better shot-stopper. He should represent a quality deputy behind David Raya without the Gunners making a significant financial outlay.

He will be signed for just £5m due to a release clause on his Chelsea contract. His wages are also on the lower side at £75,000 per week, compared to £150,000 weekly in the past.

Arsenal were previously keen on landing Espanyol sensation Joan Garcia, but he chose to join Barcelona instead.

Arrizabalaga is a good acquisition, given his experience in the Premier League with Chelsea and Bournemouth.
