Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya rewarded with improved deal

Arsenal struck an agreement with Spanish goalkeeper David Raya over an improved deal earlier this summer but it may not be officially announced by the club, according to the BBC.

The 30-year-old has been rewarded with an increase in his wages following his impressive performances since first joining the Gunners on loan from Brentford in 2023.

Raya made the move to the North London club permanent in 2024, with his current contract expiring in 2028.

While there is an option to extend the deal, the Arsenal goalie has not signed a contract extension, only signing improved terms.

Leandro Trossard also signed an improved deal earlier this summer without extending his deal, which expires in 2027.

The Belgian attacker’s new deal was not officially confirmed by the Gunners, and Raya’s new contract is expected to receive the same treatment.

Raya will be 33 by the time his current deal expires, and the club will decide whether to activate the option to extend his deal into his 34th birthday by then.

It remains to be seen whether he will be getting a fresh contract extension given his age, but getting rewarded with fresh terms is deserved.

Raya was on £100,000 per week while his old contract was still active, and while his new wages are unknown, he could be earning up to £150,000 weekly or even more right now and going forward.

He has won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award in each of the last two seasons and will be looking forward to doing so again this season as Arsenal look to finally go one better in the title race.

The Gunners are currently top of the league table seven games into the 2025-26 campaign, and Raya has played a huge role in their brilliant start to the new season, keeping four clean sheets.
