Friday’s big news was the training return of Alexander Isak, who is set for a squad role against Man City on Sunday after missing the last four matches.

Liverpool’s No. 9 is back in team training, hallelujah!
The Swede has been sidelined with a groin issue but rejoined team training for the first time since sustaining the injury on Friday.
He was one of 24 players involved as the squad prepared for the trip to Man City, and it has already been confirmed he will not start. Apologies if you were hoping he would.
Liverpool squad in training on Friday

Goalkeepers: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Pecsi
Defenders: Van Dijk, Konate, Gomez, Williams, Pitt, Bradley, Robertson, Kerkez
Midfielders: Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Wirtz, Jones, Endo, Nyoni
Forwards: Salah, Isak, Ekitike, Gakpo, Chiesa, Ngumoha
Thankfully, there were no unwelcome surprises as Liverpool posted images after training, with every fit first-team player accounted for.
There was a rare Rhys Williams sighting, though he was not hard to miss, and 18-year-old defender Lucas Pitt also got the chance to impress the coaches in what was an important session.
Anyone else already getting pre-match nerves, or just me?

With Dominik Szoboszlai in the form of his life, Sam Millne delves into why the Hungarian was Jurgen Klopp‘s greatest parting gift:
“While Liverpool will need to work out a plan to play well when he isn’t on the pitch, Szoboszlai’s availability is a key asset across a long season – he has missed just two games through illness since February 2024.
Whether the 25-year-old can keep it up across successive long seasons remains to be seen, but he has until now been a vital cog in the Slot machine.
As the head coach seeks to play a different brand of football, one that relies less on physicality, Szoboszlai’s importance has served as a salient reminder of what made Klopp’s team so great, that perfect blend of skill and strength.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

Liverpool legend John Barnes celebrates his 62nd birthday on November 7 – many happy returns, Digger!
Regarded as one of the greatest Liverpool players of all time, Barnes was a dazzling winger who later converted to become a pass master in midfield.
Following his arrival from Watford in 1987, the Jamaican-born attacker scored 108 goals in 407 games while winning the league twice, the FA Cup twice, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
Barnes is one of the best players to ever be produced in England and has the individual honours to prove it, with two FWA Footballer of the Year awards and the PFA Player of the Year title for 1988.
