Sanju Samson’s next IPL team changed again

Share

Sanju Samson, the Indian wicket-keeper batter, has been speculated to bid adieu to his former franchise, the Rajasthan Royals, to explore his chances within the IPL. Linked to CSK at first hand, the former RR skipper has now been seen training alongside RCB specialists, hence creating a new buzz ahead of the mini-auction.

Indian wicket-keepers have been in much demand in IPL auctions, and Sanju Samson is one of the best in the business. KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and Jitesh Sharma are not very likely to part ways with their former franchise; however, Samson’s disagreement with the Royals management has made him a possible option for many franchises.

Some well-known franchises like the Kolkata Knight Riders have also cited him as an option for captaincy, while CSK was among the first franchises to show interest in the Indian opener.

Sanju Samson was India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in the Asia Cup despite a demotion in the batting order. The 31-year-old batter will once again be seen as India’s leading stumper in the 5 T20I matches of the Australia tour.

Ahead of the first match scheduled to be played on the 29th of October at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, Samson is training with the RCB throw-down specialist Gabriel. The picture of Samson with Gabriel taken during a recent training session went viral on the internet, and it has created buzz among fans.

The buzz among fans has grown louder about whether Samson has ditched the Chennai Super Kings and has reportedly hinted at joining the defending champions in the IPL. Samson’s arrival could solve the No. 3 problem for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sanju Samson reveals why he quit RR firsthand

As per previous reports, Samson had urged the Rajasthan Royals management to release him ahead of the mini-auction, since the former skipper could not land on the same page as many in the RR management. The issues probably started with the release of Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

“Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years,” Samson had told Star Sports before the IPL 2025 season.

It was also reported earlier this year that the Royals are ready to trade Samson ahead and had asked multiple franchises to inquire about their interest in signing Samson. RR owner Manoj Badale even “mentioned the names of specific players from different franchises that the Royals are keen on, in exchange for Samson.”

CSK sideline talks on Samson trade, finalize deal for Indian all-rounder

As the reports speculate about Sanju Samson ditching the Chennai Super Kings, the CSK management has made a bigger move than the former RR skipper. They have sidelined Samon talks for now, as they could not agree to the terms of the Royals for the trade.

They have instead called for the signing of the Gujarat Titans all-rounder Washington Sundar as an ideal replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin. The Gujarat Titans have reportedly agreed to an all-cash deal with the CSK, which might mark the first signing of the pre-season trade window for IPL 2026.
