Sanju Samson is all set to part ways with Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2026. Despite recent changes in the Rajasthan Royals’ backroom staff, Sanju Samson has already told the team management about his decision, and the franchise is also exploring options for the trade deal.
Samson had returned to Rajasthan Royals (RR) from Delhi Capitals (DC) during the IPL 2018 mega auction and has been one of the team’s mainstays ever since. Over the years, the Indian wicketkeeper has grown into one of the most reliable Indian batters in the IPL.

Taking over as captain in 2021, Samson guided RR to their first IPL final in 14 years in the 2022 season, where they lost the trophy to the Gujarat Titans. Ahead of the 2025 season, the Royals retained Samson for a massive ₹18 crore deal, given his leadership and batting prowess.

However, Sanju now wants to part ways with the franchise, and multiple reports hint that he could be on his way to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2026.
However, the RR are unlikely to let their captain go without receiving a star player in return.
Ravindra Jadeja’s name has reportedly come up as a potential trade option. Jadeja, known as one of the most complete players in the IPL, is a proven match-winner with his all-round ability.
His powerful batting in the lower order, wicket-taking ability, and world-class fielding make him a priceless asset for CSK. Trading him away would be a tough call for the five-time champions.
Shivam Dube could be swapped for Sanju Samson
However, a Revsportz journalist, Rohit Juglan, revealed that the Chennai Super Kings have made it clear that they won’t let go of Ravindra Jadeja.
They made it clear that the Indian all-rounder is a key part of their squad and he will stay with the team despite the 2022 controversy.
However, another option being discussed is Shivam Dube. The hard-hitting all-rounder has seen his stock rise rapidly since his return to the Indian team in 2024. Dube is an explosive middle-order batter who can also chip in with the ball when needed.
The journalist suggested that CSK can consider swapping Shivam Dube to bring Samson to the side ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Interestingly, Dube has already played for the Rajasthan Royals in the past, which makes a return to the pink jersey a strong possibility.

CSK-RR trade talks heat up as KKR enters race for Sanju Samson
It remains to be seen whether CSK wants to trade Jadeja or Dube for Samson. As of now, nothing has been made official, but the discussions have already set social media abuzz. However, the RR are also exploring more options, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is also in the race to sign Sanju.
Dube is currently in Australia with the Indian cricket team. He is regular in India’s XI and will be seen in action on Saturday when the Men in Blue will take on the Kangaroos in the final T20I at the Gabba.
