Jasprit Bumrah’s IPL money BLOCKED, pacer ordered to prioritize Test cricket

Share

Former Team India bowling coach Bharat Arun has made a significant statement regarding pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s future with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL. Arun stated that Jasprit Bumrah should prioritize key Test series over the IPL to manage workload and maintain peak performance.

Jasprit Bumrah played in three of the five Tests in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England as part of a workload management plan. The 31-year-old pace bowler has faced recurring injuries in his career, including a back injury earlier this year in Australia that kept him out for three months.

Bharat Arun Urges Jasprit Bumrah to Skip IPL to Prioritize Test Cricket

Speaking on the latest episode of Bombay Sport Exchange, Bharat Arun said that Test cricket should be a priority for fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah. He noted that, unlike batters or spinners, fast bowlers require rest to recover. Arun also stated that the BCCI should adequately compensate players.

“Definitely, this would help. Especially when you want to preserve bowlers. Like, it’s okay for a batter or a spinner to play all formats. But for a fast bowler, yes — playing too much cricket doesn’t give enough time to work on the physical front,” Arun said, as quoted by TOI.

“So yes, this definitely can be looked into. People like Bumrah or any other bowler we feel is very important for a particular series can be rested, and they can also be adequately compensated.”

“If he’s properly compensated and then told by the BCCI, because he’s on contract, that we want you to work on this particular aspect of your game, I think that’s fair enough.”

Jasprit Bumrah Next to Be Seen in Action in Asia Cup 2025

Jasprit Bumrah played the first Test match at Headingley, missed the second, and featured in the third and fourth Tests. The right-arm bowler delivered 119.4 overs during the series.

Bumrah claimed 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, at an average of 26.00 and a strike rate of 51.28. The Men in Blue, led by Shubman Gill, won two matches when Bumrah was in the playing XI. The series between India and England concluded in a 2-2 draw.

Bumrah has represented India in 207 international matches across formats, taking 457 wickets at an average of 20.63, including 17 five-wicket hauls. He will next play for India in the 2025 Asia Cup, starting September 9 in the UAE.

Mohammed Siraj Has Been Exceptional – Bharat Arun

The former India bowling coach called Mohammed Siraj a bowler any captain would love to have. Arun said that Siraj has maintained high intensity throughout the five-Test series. He stated that Siraj needs to be given enough rest before the next series.

“Siraj has been there for a while. He has been exceptional. He is captain’s delight. Every time you give him the ball, he runs in and gives 100%. That is what I expect from a fast bowler. He’s got fantastic energy,” Arun opined.

“Looking at this five-Test series, Siraj has maintained the same intensity in the fifth Test as in the first. He needs to be preserved and given sufficient rest before the next series so he can recover fully physically before playing again.”
