Jamie Overton added to squad for fifth Test
The Three Lions are currently leading the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 by 2-1. They failed to secure a victory in the recent Test match at Old Trafford in Manchester, despite dominating for nearly four days, and the game ended in a draw.
Before that, they had won the third Test match at Lord’s in London in an epic manner by 22 runs and the Test series opener at Headingley in Leeds comprehensively by 5 wickets.
Their only defeat, so far, has come in the second Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham, where they were completely outplayed by the Shubman Gill-led India. The Ben Stokes-led side suffered a colossal 336-run loss in that game.
Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) selection has made just one fresh addition to the squad for the last Test match against India.
The 31-year-old Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton, who represented the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, has been added to the squad.
“England Men make one addition to the squad for the final Rothesay Test against India at the Kia Oval. The England Men’s selection panel has added Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton to the squad for the Rothesay Fifth Test match against India at Kia Oval, starting on Thursday 31 July,” the ECB said in an official media release.

This was England’s best performance of the series and they haven’t won – Michael Vaughan
Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, former captain Michael Vaughan said that England would be disappointed with the result in the Manchester Test because they couldn’t win despite delivering their best performance. He said:
“This was England’s best performance of the series and they haven’t won. From the start with the toss and choosing to bowl, and getting the ball moving and then with the bat in hand with Ollie Pope showing a different technique, then pretty much the batting order batting around Joe Root.
“The frustration will be for England not getting any wickets. The pitch had no lateral movements, there was nothing and it was difficult to get 20 wickets on this pitch.”
Meanwhile, the legendary Sir Alastair Cook highlighted the need for quick recovery for English players and demanded better pitches in England, which offer assistance to bowlers. He said:
“The most important thing will be rest and recovery for England and being able to say that they dominated this Test match, but having to admit that the wicket won at the end of the day.
“We don’t want wickets like this, we want them to deteriorate and wickets like this make batting look very easy on day five – we want jeopardy either towards the end or at the start.”
