Virat Kohli has been scoring consistently for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. However, there has been more attention on his off-the-field activities of late.
Recently, Kohli mistakenly liked an Instagram post of an Avneet Kaur fan page. The 36-year-old clarified that the algorithm mistakely registered an interaction while he was trying to clear his feed. The chatter around this incident was slowly coming to a halt until singer Rahul Vaidya stepped in.
The second runner-up in Indian Idol season one shared a few Instagram stories targetting Kohli. Vaidya claimed that the Delhi batter had blocked him on Instagram. However, the former blamed it on Instagram’s algorithm, taunting the former RCB skipper.
“Main kehna chahta hoon ki aaj ke baad aisa ho sakta hai ki algorithm bohot saare photos like karde jo maine nahi kare. So, jo bhi ladki ho (I want to say that going forward, the algorithm might like many photos which I didn’t do. So, the girls), please don’t do PR around it because it is not my mistake. It is Instagram’s mistake, okay?” Vaidya wrote.
“So guys, Virat Kohli has blocked me, as you all know. I think that too is an Instagram glitch, Virat Kohli didn’t block me. Instagram ke algorithm ne bola hoga Virat Kohli ko ki, ‘Ek kaam kar, main tere behalf pe Rahul Vaidya ko block kar deti hoon‘. Hai na (Instagram’s algorithm told Virat Kohli, ‘I’ll block Rahul Vaidya on your behalf’) Right?” he sarcastically signed off.
After Vaidya’s posts on Kohli on social media, the former also became a target of the cricket stalwart’s fans. Vaidya claimed that Kohli’s fans have been abusing him and his family members on social media over the recent activities on the internet.
“Virat Kohli’s fans are even bigger jokers than Virat!” he said in an Instagram story while express his anger over the abuse towards his family, saying. “And now you are abusing me that’s fine but you are abusing my wife my sister.. who have nothing to do with this! So I was right. That’s why you all Virat Kohli fans are jokers! 2 kaudi ke (worthless) jokers,” an irritated Vaidya wrote.
In a Zoom call, Vaidya admitted that he is a fan of Kohli’s cricketing acumen but doesn’t endorse him as a human being.
“Virat Kohli has blocked me for some reason. I am not even aware about the reason. I used to be his fan. I am still a fan of the cricketer, but I don’t endorse him as a human being,” he said.
Kohli has slammed 505 runs from 11 matches at an average of 63.13 in IPL 2025. He is the current holder of the Orange Cap. RCB are also sitting pretty at the top of the table with 16 points from 11 matches. They will return to action on Friday, May 9, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium when they face Lucknow Super Giants.
