According to the latest news, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are unlikely to trade in Samson for the next edition, making an off-season switch unlikely at this stage.
Samson’s IPL 2025 campaign was disrupted by injuries, preventing him from completing the full season. After starting as an Impact Player in the initial fixtures, he suffered an abdominal injury during a clash with the Delhi Capitals. The star missed five matches in the tournament, and RR failed to reach the playoffs.

Samson, who debuted for Rajasthan Royals in 2013, spent three seasons there before joining Delhi during RR’s suspension. He returned in 2018 and became the captain in 2021, guiding the team to a runners-up finish in 2022. The team failed to make the playoffs in two of the last three seasons.
In IPL 2025, Samson managed 285 runs at a strike rate of 140.39. During his absence, Riyan Parag captained the team. There have been rumors that RR might consider a captaincy change for the next season.
CSK Are Not Very Interested in Sanju Samson Now – Journalist
Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Rohit Juglan revealed that the trade involving Sanju Samson and CSK is unlikely to happen. He said that CSK initially showed interest, but the discussions lost momentum once RR requested two specific players in return.
“CSK are not very interested in Sanju Samson now. The deal with Sanju Samson is completely off. At one point, CSK were as interested in him as RR were. It even seemed that CSK would join hands in this deal and things would move forward,” Juglan stated.
“But the two players RR asked for things started going downhill from there. It didn’t deteriorate in the sense of a conflict, but the deal slowly faded away. Now, CSK don’t feel they need this kind of option in their team, where they require a wicketkeeper-batter.”
Rajasthan Royals’ Demands Stop Sanju Samson’s Move to Chennai Super Kings
The Rajasthan Royals reportedly requested either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in exchange, and Chennai immediately rejected the proposal. Shivam Dube’s name was also floated in discussions, but CSK made it clear they were unwilling to release any key players.
The chances of Samson moving to Chennai look slim unless CSK reopen talks or pursue him in the next auction. Multiple teams have entered discussions for the wicketkeeper-batter, raising the prospect of another franchise securing his services.
Samson reportedly asked the Royals management to release him. However, his future still depends on the franchise’s decision. Samson and the RR management also had disagreements over the release of Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
