Serie A outfit Parma have made an enquiry to sign Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira during the summer transfer window, according to The Times.
The Portuguese signed for the Gunners from Porto in the summer of 2022, but he has made just 49 appearances in all competitions thus far.
Vieira returned to Porto on loan during the previous campaign, and he is now expected to leave the Gunners on a permanent transfer deal.
Parma recently appointed Arsenal assistant coach Carlos Cuesta as their new manager. The club have now asked about a potential move for Vieira.
Arsenal have set a £20 million price tag for the 25-year-old, who ‘wants’ to work with Cuesta.
Vieira poised to leave Arsenal soon
The Gunners have made a huge outlay of £140m up front to purchase Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera.
Their spending spree could be close to £200m once Viktor Gyokeres makes the switch. The Sweden international could join the club ahead of the pre-season tour of Asia.
Meanwhile, Arsenal need to recoup funds to extend their spending spree. The club are in contact with Eberechi Eze’s camp, but a deal could depend on multiple player exits.
Vieira looks poised to head for the exit door. He had a relatively good loan stint at Porto. Despite a slow start, he finished the campaign with five goals and six assists from 42 games.
Parma are the only club interested at the moment, with Cuesta reportedly an admirer of Vieira. The 29-year-old will obviously have an idea of Vieira’s strengths from the training ground.
It remains to be seen whether Parma are willing to pay £20m. Their club record signing stands at £24m. They have not spent more than £19m on a player over the past two decades.
Arsenal may have to accept a lower fee upfront with performance add-ons.
