Romano Reveals Arsenal Star Wants Certain “Guarantees” As Man City Weigh Up Shock Transfer

Manchester City transfer target Ethan Nwaneri wants “some guarantees” about game time before signing a new contract with Arsenal, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 18-year-old is in the final year of his current deal with the Gunners, and Pep Guardiola’s side, Chelsea and Liverpool are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that Nwaneri would prefer to stay at the Emirates but the club’s interest in players like Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze has left the player concerned about the number of minutes he will get next season:

“Let’s also follow in the next days the topic of the new contract for Ethan Nwaneri, because Arsenal are in active talks with the agents of Ethan Nwaneri.”

“The player is really still keen on staying at Arsenal so, after Lewis-Skelly, Arsenal always wanted to extend the contract of Ethan Nwaneri, there is a discussion to do on game time because, obviously, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, Arsenal are working on several profiles, and so obviously on player camp, they want to understand what’s Arsenal’s plan for the boy for the upcoming seasons before putting pen to paper.”

“So the conversation remains active and positive, with Ethan Nwaneri keen on staying at Arsenal, but also seeking for some guarantees in terms of game time, in terms of plan before putting pen to paper.”

Chelsea have made the first move for Nwaneri

While it is believed a whole host of teams across Europe (including City) would like to sign the teenager if he is available, it looks like one club in particular has already made their interest known to Arsenal.

Romano claims that Chelsea have made a formal enquiry to inform the Gunners that they are keen on purchasing Nwaneri if he is put for sale this summer.

At the moment, Mikel Arteta’s side are still said to be hoping to keep the England Under 21 international, but a lot still depends on how contract negotiations progress over the coming days and weeks.
