Club CEO Makes Claim About “Premier League” Interest As Man City, United And Arsenal Battle For £35M Forward

Levante CEO Jose Danvila has denied that Premier League teams have made enquiries about reported Man City target Karl Etta Eyong.

Reports in the Catalan media over the past week have linked Pep Guardiola’s side, Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona with a move for the Cameroon international. However, when speaking to Radio Marca, Danvila said that while one bid has been received for the striker, it wasn’t from an English club or the La Liga champions:

“Barca haven’t contacted Levante about Etta Eyong, and we haven’t received any calls from the Premier League either. We did receive a firm offer for the player, but it has been rejected.”

Danvila is adamant that Etta Eyong won’t be sold during the January transfer window. Levante are keen to retain the player’s services until the end of the season, at the very least, as they believe he is key for them to survive relegation.

Why is there so much interest in Etta Eyong?

The 22-year-old was playing for Villarreal’s B team last season but he has found the back of the net 6 times in 11 appearances since the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

That is an impressive return but the main reason why Etta Eyong is being watched so closely by a whole host of teams is the existence of a release clause.

Spanish sides, like Barca, can sign the forward for €30m (£26m), while teams abroad, including City, can secure his signature for €40m (£35m).

Do City need another striker?

With Erling Haaland seemingly unstoppable in front of goal and Omar Marmoush having arrived at the start of the year for an initial £59m, some fans may question why the Cityzens are keen on signing Etta Eyong.

It should be pointed out, though, that Marmoush is not an out-and-out No.9 so there could be room in the squad for someone who can be Haaland’s direct backup.
