The agent of Lyon winger Malick Fofana claims that the player wants a move to a “top 10 club” like Man City and he is hoping to prove himself worthy of such a transfer this season.
Speaking to De Morgen (quotes translated by Sport Witness), the 20-year-old’s representative, Frederico Pena, said that the forward harbours big ambitions:
“This is the season in which Fofana wants to show himself to the world, especially at the World Cup.”
“If he succeeds, he can move from Lyon to a top 10 club. At Roc Nation, we strongly believe in him. Liverpool, Bayern, Man City, those are the clubs where he belongs.”
Fofana has confirmed “interest” from Premier League clubs
Speaking last month about whether he was close to leaving Lyon during the last transfer window, the Belgian international revealed that several teams made approaches.
Fofana said that there was “interest” from Liverpool and Chelsea but it wasn’t “concrete enough” for a move to happen.
While the Reds devoted most of their transfer funds to buying Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Chelsea signed the likes of Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho for the left flank instead.
Man City already have Doku in the squad
Fofana is an international teammate of Jeremy Doku, and the two players have been selected in the first eleven for the same game for Belgium.
The pair started on the two wings against Liechtenstein last month. Fofana got himself a goal during the 6-0 win. It should be pointed out, though, that both prefer the left flank as thet are predominantly right-footed.
For that reason, it is up for debate whether the Cityzens would seriously consider pursuing Fofana, with Doku already at the club. The Lyon forward is, however, seemingly keen on the idea of making the switch to the Etihad in the future.
