I Just Don’t See It

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby does not believe that Man City are genuine title contenders this season.

Speaking to Anfield Index, Molby was particularly critical of the tactics that were deployed in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal at the weekend:

“There has been a lot of criticism of Mikel Arteta and the starting eleven that he picked, but I actually think that the biggest surprise was the way that Man City played.”

“I understand that they’ve gone to the Emirates and take the lead inside ten minutes, but Pep Guardiola would’ve never played like that in the past.”

“I still think that Liverpool and Arsenal will finish first and second. I just can’t have Man City in that conversation. Donnarumma has come in and looks good, Rodri is slowly getting back to the form and Haaland is Haaland, but apart from that, I just don’t see it.”

Man City need to prove the doubters wrong

After losing two of the first three games this season, there are clearly still many who question whether this team has the ability to finish top of the table.

Molby is, however, being far too critical of the display at the Emirates. There were extenuating circumstances as to why the Cityzens played so defensively in that match.

Even so, Guardiola’s team are already eight points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, and if they are to make a concerted title challenge this season, they will need to put a run of wins together to close the gap to 1st.

Who are the current favourites to win the Premier League?

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool are odds-on to retain the title, wile bookmakers pricing Arsenal between 15/8 and 2/1 to finish top.

City, meanwhile, have seen their odds lengthen to 6/1, so they have a lot of work to do to get back in contention.
