Man City Told They Could Sign “One Of The Best Midfielders In the Premier League” If They Secure £50M Summer Deal

Manchester City target Adam Wharton has been tipped to become “one of the best midfielders in the Premier League”.

The Crystal Palace star has had a difficult season due to injury, having been sidelined for the best part of three months after undergoing groin surgery. However, speaking on Shots TV‘s Premier League Panel show, journalist Mark Carruthers claimed that the 21-year-old has all the attributes needed to reach the highest level:

“I just think he’s someone that we could look at in the future as becoming one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.”

“Another one that can just do a little bit of everything – does the basics well but can also mix it up in midfield as well… Someone who I think will only go and get better and better as the years go on.”

Guardiola is a big fan of Wharton

The Cityzens were originally linked with signing the midfielder at the end of last season when he made a big impression after moving to Palace from Blackburn Rovers.

It is believed that the club have kept tabs on Wharton since then and, last month, manager Pep Guardiola added fuel to the fire that a bid from City could happen when he described the England star as “a really good player”.

City will have rivals for the midfielder’s signature

Reports over the past few days have suggested that Liverpool could be lining up a £50m bid, while Manchester United and Tottenham have also been credited with an interest in recent weeks.

Fabrizio Romano has played down any immediate approach for Wharton, stating that there is “nothing serious yet” in terms of offers, but he did confirm that there are “many clubs” keeping an eye on his situation.
